Vertex Systems Jan 2002 – Oct 2002 Senior Consultant
Hired to service existing network infrastructure contracts, and responsible for day-to-day operations of servers and workstations running Windows 2000, Windows NT, Linux, and Solaris. This included 6 Oracle Servers, 2 SQL Servers, 2 Exchange Servers, 4 Domain Controllers, 6 Application Servers, and 3 File/Print Servers.
- Directly responsible for Auditing and Implementing Security Policy and maintaining Security Standards.
- Completed implementation of Outlook Web Access on Exchange 5.5 Servers for Screen Actors Guild. Including complete documentation of project, and creation of User’s Manuals for both Executives, and Network Techs.
- Planned and Implemented Active Directory and migration from Windows NT to Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 for Castle & Cooke. Project involved 43 locations, 265 Servers and 4,500 users. Brought entire project in 5 months ahead of schedule, and saved customer over $125,000.
- Implemented Active Directory and managed migration from Windows NT to Windows 2000 and Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000 for Fullerton College . Project involved 65 servers, and 16,500 users.
- Planned and documented AD migration for AECOM. Project involved 34 countries, 540 servers, and over 17,000 users. Reduced entire consulting engagement from 2 months down to less than one week.
Additional projects worked on included Warner Music Group, Funrise Products, Delta Dental, Watson Pharmaceuticals, Sasco, and Oaktree Capital Management.
The NETWORK Network Jan 1990 – Dec 2001 Technical Director
Co-founded The NETWORK Network, Inc. to consult and lecture internationally, in January 1990.
- 12 month project implementing Windows 2000 and Active Directory in Sky City Casino – upgrading 142 Servers from NT and Novell to Windows 2000, along with over 2,500 workstations. Managed a team of 36 people, with direct reports to the CFO and Board of Directors. Brought project in 6 months ahead of schedule, and 36% under budget.
- Wrote and delivered technical sales training for RBOCs (Pacific Bell, Ameritech, Bell South, Nynex, SNET, SBC, AT&T, NT, Lucent, and BellCore) on Selling Strategic Networks, Open Systems Selling, Winning with Digital Centrex, Competitive Selling Techniques.
- Involved in consulting with (and setting up) some of the largest regional Internet Access Providers, including OzEmail in Australia, VisionNet and IDOLA in Indonesia, Pacific Internet and Cyberway in Singapore, and ICONZ and Planet Free NZ in New Zealand. Designed and implemented regional TCP/IP networks, including DHCP and DNS Servers Routers, Gateways, Mail Servers, News Servers, Web Servers, and dial-up POPs.
- Worked extensively in Asia, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, developing, authoring, and presenting seminars on Desktop Support, Application Development, Operating Systems Support (primarily versions of Microsoft Windows), Application Support (mostly BackOffice and Microsoft Office), Computer Networking (including the Internet), and E-Commerce support and design. Typical seminars ran two or three 8-hour days. Lectured 4-5 days a week, and averaged 4 International tours each year between 1995 and 1998, spending 40 weeks out of the country each year.
- Authored and presented seminars on GUI design, programming, networking, operating systems support, operating system optimization, and Internet topics that were presented to US-based Telcos, including Bell South, US West, Ameritech, Nynex, Pacific Bell, and SNET, as well as public forums internationally.
- Co-authored, produced and directed a long-running (4 years) monthly television series for AT&T Network Systems on telecommunications topics and competitive evaluations, consisting of two 6-hour days of broadcast each month. Day one was primarily focused on technical aspects of new technologies, while the second day focused on marketing aspects for Account Executives. Responsibilities included topic selection, research, authoring presentation materials and scripts, producing student/attendee manuals, producing audio-visuals, graphics and animations for each broadcast, producing and directing each broadcast, and presenting segments on each broadcast. Was also responsible for coordinating the VSAT network with 2,600 downlink locations, and 37 satellite transponders.
